Our Disneyland “Musts”

Okay. Lets face it… I am a HUGE Disney fan and Disneyland could quite possibly be one of my favorite places on Earth! Luckily, while growing up, my mom took me to Disneyland more times than I count. It sure didn’t help that every dance/cheer competition or Utah football game I performed at in California, included Disneyland on a day off. I guess this kind of leads to my insane love for Disneyland..

With that said, I have come to some great Disney tips that I would love to share because everyone deserves to get the most bang for their buck. Or I guess I should reword that.. Everyone deserves to get the most magical experience for what they are paying! Yes, you will pay a lot. It definitely adds up, but I think it’s all worth it for the experience.

  1. GET THE MAXPASS.
Okay it’s $10 extra a day, but I can PROMISE you… You will not regret this! You can purchase this in the Disneyland app when you get into the park. You literally get to pick your fast-passes on your phone while waiting in line. If you choose to be smart, you can plan out how to choose rides based on wait time. Also, with the MaxPass, you can get photos taken around the park by Disney photographers, which are then sent to your phone to download. The pass will give you a QR code, SCREENSHOT that! Then when you go around to photographers, you don’t have to pull up the app and waste battery life. You’re welcome.
  2. GET THERE EARLY.
I tell Brax that we need to get there at least 15 mins before park opening. Ideally, get there 30 mins early because you can get through security earlier and get into the park as they announce the opening of the park. Leave it to Disney to make an announcement of the park opening, for the day, the cutest thing ever.
  3. MAKE FOOD RESERVATIONS.
It’s all for the experience guys… If you want to enjoy some delicious food with an experience, make a reservation a few months early. We love Blue Bayou, inside of Pirates.
  4. SEE THE FROZEN SHOW.
If you head over to California Adventures make sure you enjoy the Frozen show. Though I wish it was still the Aladdin Show (Disneyland fanatics, don’t you agree?) The best part about this… You sit in a nice cool theater for an hour! Man, it’s great after a whole day of walking. Plus, maybe grab popcorn and a drink to enjoy while watching. Seriously, can’t go wrong with Disney treats.
  5. GET A BUTTON.
If you are celebrating anything, first time visit, birthday, honeymoon, anniversary, etc. Get a freaking button! You can grab these at guest services in the front of the park or I have heard you can get them at any of the stores now. But, once you have your button on, you feel like a freaking celebrity because all of the cast members will congratulate you and make you feel extra special.
  6. PIN TRADING.
Okay, I am obsessed with this. Every time we go, I have to get a pin to add to my lanyard. I actually don’t “pin trade,” you could say I “pin collect” lol! I buy the golden backs that keep them on tightly, so I don’t lose them, and people can’t trade me. I just love to collect them! It’s a fun tradition and the next time we go, I’ll be buying a lanyard for Ivy so she can grow up collecting too. (I didn’t start collecting until I was a sophomore in high school)
  7. SEE FIREWORKS, FANTASMIC, AND WORLD OF COLOR.
Depending on the park you are in, definitely catch one of these night-time shows. They will not disappoint. For Fantasmic and World of Color you will need a fast-pass to view the show. For World of Color, we usually don’t get fast-passes until later in the day because they give them out in sections. Also, we never wait an hour to get a good spot for the show. We usually just find a spot behind people with a little hole, so we can see. It depends on your preferences. If you want the best spot in the house wait early.
  8. STOP BY THE COZY CONE MOTEL.
If you need a little pick me up snack, stop by the Cozy Cone Motel in Cars Land. I can honestly say you can’t go wrong with any of the choices there. They are all amazing and great for a midday snack.
  9. EAT AT THE PACIFIC WARF CAFE.
We will always make a stop here for some delicious sourdough bread bowls. Before entering the cafe, they have a walk-through where they show the bread being made and give some history about the bread. On top of that, FREE SAMPLES are given! Can’t go wrong with free in Disneyland. My favorite food from the Cafe is the broccoli and cheddar soup in the bread bowl. So filling and so delicious.
  10. VISIT DURING HALLOWEEN AND CHRISTMAS.
Highly recommend planning your trip during the Fall or near the holidays to make your Disneyland even more magical. The decor, the smells, and the music will create a magical experience you won’t forget. Don’t miss out on the Haunted Mansion during these times of year. They completely change up this ride to fit the holiday and it’s so stinking cute.
  11. BRING WATER BOTTLES.
Before you head to the park, stop by a gas station to grab water bottles at a reasonable price. Once you get into the park, everything jumps up in price, so save while you can.
  12. RIDE UBER OR LYFT.
We always use a shuttle if the hotel provides it, but in the case that you want to save time or don’t want to pay for an extra shuttle (if the hotel does not provide this free service), download the Uber or Lyft app and request a ride. Much cheaper and convenient than a hotel shuttle or the ART shuttle…. Yes, we figured this out the last time we went after we had purchased our ART pass..
  13. FAV RIDES.
-Our fav rides in Disneyland- Pirates, Indiana Jones, Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion, Star Tours, Space Mountain, Davy Crockett Canoes, Tea Cups, Peter Pan (Brax HATES this ride, I think it’s magical, but not worth it if you’re not easily enertained), Poo Bear, It’s a Small World.-Our fav rides in California Adventures- Radiator Springs Racers, Guardians of the Galaxy, Soarin’ Over the World, Toy Story Mania, Grizzly River Run (when weather is warm).
  14. GET A CHURRO.
I think Brax eats about 15 churros every time we go to Disneyland. I’m not sure why, but the churros are always a hit for the men. At least try a churro once.
  15. ENJOY SOME DOLE WHIP.
I just had to mention it. What’s Disneyland without the Dole Whip, right? I always get the float, but most are content with just the ice cream. Either way, you’re not going to go wrong.
  16. STOP BY DOWNTOWN DISNEY.
Maybe you have a night free before you head into the parks, or if you get a lot done in one day.. Head to Downtown Disney for a great shopping and dining experience. We always stop there to get a treat fromĀ Marceline’s Confectionery. I always get a cute little cake pop or a carameled apple. Also, Kayla’s Cake has a little stand with some amazing macarons, if you are a macaron fan, like me, you need to try.
  17. PURCHASE YOUR MICKEY/MINNIE EARS.
I love having ears in the park, but in the park they get pretty expensive for just a plain set of ears. If you love ears, I know a girl (; She makes the most adorable ears. Click here for her Esty page. Seriously, the cutest ever.
  18. BUY YOUR PACKAGE AT GETAWAY TODAY.
If you need just the tickets or the full package then head over to Getaway Today for a great deal, especially on the vacation packages. If you buy your hotel and tickets through them, they send you a cute package to get you ready for Disney. Have always used them and always will. Click here for the link.
  19. BE PREPARED.
Wear comfy shoes and comfy clothes. Have a game plan. Bring an extra hair tie. Bring games for the longer waits (if you even wait in a long line with the MaxPass). Be prepared for a magical experience.

You may have noticed I used the word cute and adorable way too many times, but I mean it! I honestly think all of these things are “cute” and “adorable.” I just love Disney and really wish Brax would let us get season passes so I could have an excuse to go all the time. Hope this was somewhat helpful to some of you and please comment if you have any more questions!
